BathCamp

ideas and interesting people

An ongoing question in my head is...where goes "BathCamp"?

By this I mean...

We have the beginnings of a nice-sized community here. Many of you were at BathCamp #1, and I think this forms the core "membership" of this group. At the same time, I'm aware that the name "BathCamp" might be either confusing, offputting or slightly non-inclusive to people who didn't come along to the BathCamp event.

It might, furthermore, be confusing to people who *were* at the BathCamp barcamp - after all, I do (yes, you have it in writing now...) want to do another BathCamp this year, but am also keen to build some momentum around evening / lunch / other events.

So I'm wondering what to do - keep calling this ("this" currently being the Ning site and, well, you..) "BathCamp" and just shuddup worrying, or "rebrand" into something else. BathGeeks? You know the kind of thing.

Let me know if you have thoughts, or if I should just can it.

I kinda think keeping the Bathcamp name is a winner - Bathcamp is the barcamp and Bathcamp MeetUps are the evening type events? (like SI Camp does)

lets keep with bathcamp. I work in IT, but i'm no geek.

Stick with Bathcamp. It works. No need to mess about with it. And anyway, getting people to agree on something new is a whole new can of worms. The simplest thing is to stick with what you've got.

Bathcamp works for me, a new name will result in confusion to my tiny brain.

I agree with the general consensus here that the name BathCamp is a good-un. I agree with Mike that these events are not a Barcamp, so could be confusing when organizing any subsequent 'real' BathCamp's.

'BathCamp evening meetup #1' is along the right lines, so as Matt suggests keep BathCamp as the prefix to give us something like 'BathCamp MeetUp', 'BathCamp Nights', 'BathCamp Lunch', 'BathCamp on the Heath', 'BathCamp at Sea' etc. :)

Another bonus is that when the next Barcamp event occurs using the name of BathCamp, there will be an immediate association with all these meetups.

On a side note, you could use the same method as Carsonified use for FOWA using the acronym, BCEM (BathCamp Evening Meetup).

I have pondered a while, and after seeing:- http://twitter.com/bathcamp/status/1255096407 I can see it's possible that "BathCamp (the barcamp)" may end up being used to discuss the 'real' BarCamp (even I'm having trouble explaining myself :))

So to that end I have a couple of suggestions for 'The name' for the other community events.

BathTech - sounds a bit 80's to me, but it's an idea.

BathComm - it retains the initials BC and the 'Comm' could mean Community, Communication, Comment, Commerce etc.

The name BathCamp didn't put me off and I haven't attended any of the events yet.
As an outsider, I think the name's a good one and isn't non-inclusive at all.
Surely only people can make a group exclusive and I'm assuming that's not what you'd describe yourselves as... ;)
