BathCamp evening meetup #5

Finally we've sorted a venue (note - we're back at Revolution) and date..sorry about the confusion...

BathCamp 5 is a deeply eclectic mix of topics: three talks covering technology, design and Research. (The image, in case you were wondering is of a Venturi Eclectic wind AND solar powered car...)

First up is Pete Ferne (Jiva Technology / Bristol Wireless) who will be joining us to do a talk entitled "Rabbiting on the Web", all about XMPP and messaging.

Sam Machin is also going to be speaking - his topic is "Design is easy, Good design is harder"

Sam "...is a Designer who spends most of his days in meeting rooms arguing with people and pointing out flaws in their ideas. This makes him slightly happier in his work. He can't draw."

Finally, we've got Cameron Neylon, a scientist from Rutherford Appleton Laboratory who'll be talking about "Radical Transparency in Research: Good, bad, or indifferent?".

Cameron will look at the philosophy behind taking an open approach to research and examine some of the social and technological challenges to this. He asked me to stress that his research interests in DNA, protein structure and function, high throughput analysis and biotechnology would not be inflicted on the BathCamp audience :-)

I'll be in Bath early with Mr Ibbotson as he is on tour from the wilds of Sheffield :) so we'll be in Revolution at 6ish for grub as well before the talks..

I'm still negotiating with Revolution about the regular night. It sounds as if they definitely have something else now on a Wednesday, but I'll talk to them this week and see what I can sort out. Sorry it's all a bit vague at the moment - hopefully it'll settle down soon

Rather it be a Wednesday/Thursday but for this month I can make the Monday.
